CRAU: Roughly a year and some months ago Rin was dropped into a seemingly unnamed village surrounded by a monochrome forest and equally gray body of water. Being among the first group to arrive in the well, he and the rest that he showed up with were forced to find a way to survive in a world without color where all the food tasted like ash and all the buildings were in some form of disrepair. A mysterious person who simply went by the hex code #FFFFFF communicated with the new people through the only piece of technology - a laptop with nothing but a forum for contact and no other connections to the outside world. They were given quests in order to return to the color to the town, bit by little bit, forced to hunt mutated animals for food and given the barest necessities for survival.

Rin, of course, made friends as he is apt to do and became close to many of the residents, helping as only he knew how by starting the "Chroma Cafe" (named after the villagers came to a consensus on what to call the place) which was little more than a soup kitchen meant to give meals to those who didn't know how to or couldn't find the time to cook. It was all via limited supplies and often meant the only meal for the day for many, but it was better than going completely hungry.

Over time people came and went frequently and the quests from "Mr. F" became increasingly worrying in their danger and potential for injury or death. The village was attacked often by creatures from beyond the forest, and even the forest itself began to encroach on the village. Rin watched more times than he cared to count as people were often injured or even murdered in front of him, be it by a hungry Siren or an angry Dryad or just about anything fairy tale that could be dreamt up.

Eventually the mystery of the village, what had happened to its previous occupants and why it had lost its color became apparent via a slowly revealed story, pieced together by those infinitely smarter than Rin. When the time came that they were allowed to return home, Rin worried over what he would face when he finally went back to True Cross but took his personalized page that would allow him to return anyway and gave tearful goodbyes to those who remained before stepping through the door...

PERSONALITY:

The first thing most people think when they see Rin is “punk brat”. Even in his school uniform, he exudes the outward personality of someone who just doesn’t give a shit, who would rather punch you in the face first and ask questions later. Mussed hair, slouched posture, a constant scowl are usually the things that make up the first impression of Rin Okumura.

There is a lot more to him than that, and he often surprises people with just how deep his personality goes. He’s certainly not as intelligent as his brother but that’s not exactly by choice as his problems with fighting, lack of attention in school and inability to get along with other people prevented him from getting a proper education. He’s not against learning; he’s just not good at it and struggles through even basic things like reading aloud or studying for long periods of time. This leads to him being a tad clueless, saying common phrases wrong, struggling with use of proper kanji and more commonly known facts. He tends to speak with a somewhat 'lazy' inflection as well, indicative of his punk-like attitude.

If presented with something he’s actually genuinely interested in, he will actively find ways to learn, like with cooking. He knows Japanese and Western recipes but likely had to learn some of them from books that weren’t in Japanese. Since he wouldn’t be able to read them he probably taught himself to learn from the pictures instead of asking for help with reading.

Rin was, in the past, very prideful to the point of refusing to listen to others even when they actually knew better than he did. He would gloat with unearned bravado and behave as though he was clearly the coolest guy in the room. That much has changed dramatically, due in part to both his gained friendships with people who actually care about him and the oft-traumatic things he's experienced during his time as an exorcist-in-training. It became more apparent with these things that much of his attitude was an effort to hide just how truly damaged his self esteem was, and how much of Shiro's passing he blamed himself for. He was and still is suffering from a great deal of survivor's guilt and pain at learning the truth about himself.

Some things still remain even as he's grown, though. He’s often immature, demanding, noisy, easily frustrated/angered and even a bit annoying at times. He still struggles with learning despite making genuine efforts to improve, still tries to make himself out to be the 'older' of the twins without having the maturity to back it up, and will often say things bluntly or crassly that other people wouldn't even dream of saying.

All that aside, though, he does have a lot of good traits that go hand in hand with some of his worse ones. He can connect with people on many levels - loss, grief, sorrow, ambition, drive, a desire to protect family and the people he cares about - and will often make friends based on these connections. Befriending people, to him, brings about a level of connection and strength in relationship that cannot be broken for him by trivial things. Even when he was outed as Satan’s son, he tried as hard as he could to keep the friends he had made and make them believe that he could be trusted.

He’s surprisingly kind beneath his rougher exterior. He supports his friends and family no matter what, is constantly grateful for their support of him, and is usually the first to encourage them to reach for their goals even when they may seem silly or unattainable. He takes great pride in his cooking, and more than that finds immense joy in being able to share meals and treats with his friends. There is something about the way he smiles in the moments where his dishes are being praised that seems to be the most genuine expression from him.

He also has a soft spot for animals, a bit of a mischievous prankster side, and has a difficult time being serious in less dangerous situations or when his brother wishes he would be. He will probably be called childish and immature more than once, but it speaks a lot to what kind of person he really is when he’s not trying to prove something, or hide just how insecure he really is.

CRAU: Unfortunately right before being taken to the village of Chroma he experienced the worst betrayal of all - that of his younger brother leaving to join the Illuminati. Words were exchanged that tore at Rin's heart and left him fearful of what he would have to face when he made it back home. It was something always at the back of his mind during his time in Chroma, and at times it made him reluctant to return at all even though he knew deep down he would have to confront Yukio eventually.

Despite that and feeling the sting of betrayal from both him and one of their other friends, Renzo Shima, it did little to dissuade him from making new friends and even forming a strong relationship with Kohaku Hearts, father-son like relationship with a man named Nyx Ulric, and a sibling-like relationship with a girl named Kaoru Akashi, as well as many, many others. Though in time many were taken away from Chroma, losses he felt deep in his heart, he continued to do whatever he could to help the remaining people in the village. Many events chipped away at his already weak self esteem, often leaving him despondent over his situation and at times even fearing for his life or the lives of others. He developed a lingering paranoia over the constant threat of 'what next'. Physically he has experienced a low level of malnourishment and high level of stress that has left him gaunt, thinned and visibly affected by the things he's had to do in order to survive.

POWERS/ABILITIES:

🔥 Flames of Satan, the power inherited from his biological demonic father. Unlike Satan, though, Rin has trained hard and struggled to bring this power in control to the point where he can use them without harming innocents and instead focus them on demons and demonic possession.
● Pyrokinesis: Creating and controlling fire with his mind.
● Demon Form: Upon drawing the sword, Rin takes on physical traits of his demon-self including longer ears, fangs, and flames on his tail and around his body. He also has access to true power, making his attacks and body stronger. Unfortunately this also counts as a potential weakness - his demon heart can be exposed while the sword is out, which is weakest point for a demon.

🔥 Knight Meister Training, the training he's been undertaking since he joined True Cross.
● Flame-Emitting Meditation: Only usable when he is channeling the demon Ucchusma, who won't be available to him in Awash. He was capable of unleashing a massive cleansing flame across an entire mountainside.
● Satan Slash: A channeling of flames through Kurikara that are unleashed in a wave at enemies.
● Satan Bomb: Flames put in to the ground via stabbing Kurikara downward, causing them to explode at various points of his choosing.
● Satan Campfire: Stronger version of Satan Bomb, with a larger more centralized explosion.

🔥 High Speed Regeneration, the ability to close wounds quickly, survive severe damage that would otherwise kill a normal human and even reattach limbs.

🔥 Demon Telepathy, the ability to hear the thoughts of and speak to demons. Also gives him the ability to sense where demons might be in the area.

🔥 Enhanced Strength, what it says on the tin. Has had this since he was a child, even when his powers were completely sealed.

Other: Rin is stated as being "surprisingly good with his hands", and is known for being a very skilled chef, especially for his age.
